Patrick “Pat” McTigue is an accomplished leader with a distinguished career in hospitality and tourism. Currently serving as Interim Senior Vice President and Executive Director of the San Diego Zoo Safari Park, he is responsible for the overall operation of this 1,800-acre, world-renowned destination. Pat leads over 1,000 team members as they care for wildlife and inspire the next generation of conservationists.
Pat began his journey at San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance in 2019. In response to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, McTigue’s steadfast leadership helped navigate the closures and successful reopenings of the Safari Park, enacting robust safety initiatives for guests, team members, and the wildlife in their care. An advocate for diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion, McTigue has actively implemented resources that cultivate a unified, collaborative environment and enhance overall experiences for both team members and guests. Additionally, McTigue is a member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) Business Operations Committee.
With decades of experience and a proven track record of success across the hospitality industry in operations, sales, and marketing, McTigue previously held executive roles with Marriott, Hilton, and InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG). He has been recognized for several notable achievements, including IHG’s Director of Sales and Marketing of the Year, and Hilton Americas Sales Team of the Year.
McTigue holds a bachelor’s degree in business management and is a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He has been a resident of San Diego for over 20 years, currently lives with his family in Escondido.
